Although playing in the open position utilizing the open strings is at the heart
of this style you need to learn the scales shown here to play higher notes in
the same mode.
Also by learning these patterns you will be able to play in other keys by moving
the pattern up or down the neck.
It's worth spending as much time as necessary to become thoroughly conversant
with these two scales.
I have put the fingering used to learn the patterns below the tab. Bear
in mind however that when using the scales to play real stuff many different
fingerings are possible
