Lead Improvisation Spanish Style 3

Step 3 Learn Some Rolls

These rolls are just extended pull-offs and hammer-ons so if you already have that technique you should find these fairly easy to master.

The examples here use the open strings to bounce off which is one of the reasons this is such a popular key for this style.
There are four separate examples on the soundfile corresponding to the four bars of tab. They should each be played with just one right hand pluck.

A good way to strengthen your technique is to leave your right hand out altogether - for example try repeating the first roll without re-plucking the string.

For added spanishness try putting an open E chord (staccato or crash)before or after any of these rolls.

Using either of the scales shown in the first lesson you should be able to work out some other similar rolls for yourself.
